When reading through the material during week 5 I came across many different items that I recognized from playing Minecraft. In this paragraph, I want to go over my reasoning for picking this topic and go over what I am going to cover in my paper.

Paragraph 1

(For each of the three body paragraphs I will explain their significance in Chinese history and Minecraft, this is to give everyone a background on the items and see if there are any similarities in value or use). In this paragraph, I am going to talk about the various different exotics in Minecraft such as ores. Ore examples include Lapis Lazuli, Diamonds, and Gold.

Paragraph 2

The previous paragraph was for ores in Minecraft. This one will be based more around every day items such as Seaweed, Sugar and Feathers.

Paragraph 3

To be honest, I am not 100% set on what I want to do for this paragraph. I am leaning towards how some of these items are used/valued in modern-day China. I am open to suggestions!

Conclusion

In this paragraph I will wrap up all my keys points and promote Minecraft!

Example Paragraph

Diamonds in Minecraft is one of the most useful and rare items in all of Minecraft. They are used to make armor and different types of tools. It is very versatile, durable, and rare. What about in Ancient China? First off, how are diamonds made? Diamonds form when lumps of carbon come
under intense heat and pressure and become crystallized (Northrup 2004, 269). This mainly occurred when mountains were being formed. Diamonds are very rare so they were very valuable especially to the T’ang Dynasty. T’ang diamonds were actually not a Chinese stone. In fact, China got its diamonds mainly from India. Another place China got diamonds were from pre-Cambodian Bnam. India still remained the main supplier of diamonds to the T’ang dynasty. India got their diamonds from other places as well. India mainly got their diamonds from Brazil and African diamonds from South Africa. What were these diamonds used for? “The diamond was best known in China in Buddist imagery” (Schafer 2014, 290). The name for a diamond is “hardness of [or from] gold” (Schafer 2014, 290). It was believed that diamonds formed inside of gold.

References

Schafer, Edward H. The Golden Peaches of Samarkand: A Study of Tang Exotics.
