In the fall there would be Halloween decorations and in the Winter there would Christmas, Hanukkah or any other type of winter holiday decoration. While reading some articles I came across a different type of decorations. They are just decorations though, they are more than that. These objects are the Bronze Vessels.

These vessels aren’t just any type of vessel, they look very unique and you can probably tell why. It is because they are mostly made to represent different types of tasks. Some are designed for drinking and some are made to look nice. Not only are they made to look nice, they have a special meaning behind them.

Zhi Vessels are made to be drunk at ritual banquets while Jiao vessels were designed for drinking wine. Zun vessels were designed to hold on to wine for whenever the time came to drink wine. While all these vessels have specifically designed tasks that each one is used for. They are also designed a certain way too.

Many of the vessels are crafted and designed based on creatures. Some of these animals represented include owls, frogs, dragons and tigers. After reading through the story of some of these vessels, I learned a lot more of what they mean and what they are used. Should I purchase one sometime soon?

References

“Precious Metals: Animal-Shaped Bronze Vessels in the Shang Dynasty Period.” December 8, 2019.
