It is crazy to think about how much we have all learned during this time. Back in August, I had very minimal knowledge about Chinese history and now I have expanded my knowledge more than I thought I would. The nice part about this course is that I did not have to cram anything that I learned. I was able to learn week by week and I think that was very beneficial.

After each week we wrote a reflection about three things we learned. Most people put what they learned in bullet points but I took a slightly different approach. At the beginning of each post, I would briefly summarize what we learned in the past week. Then, I would go into detail about the three things I learned that past week. I felt by doing this I could elaborate on each individual point instead of doing one big summary with headings at the end. Also, by doing this, I feel like I retained the information better. Allowing myself to explain why and how I learned what I learned was definitely beneficial to me in the long run.

I would also say that another thing that helped me learn as much as I did was the way the class was structured. Everything had a timeline, so I was able to connect what I was learning each week. I frequently found myself saying “I can see how this relates to last week”. The same goes for even two weeks prior. It was nice to see the flow of the material each week. Being able to connect the dots as the fourteen weeks progressed was cool to see unfold as I was learning throughout the semester.

The way the class was structured was very helpful in my opinion. During these times class can be stressful for a lot of people and I think the way this class was laid out helped ease that stress a lot for everybody. Tuesday you have your initial post, Thursday, you comment on other people’s posts and give feedback, and Sunday you write a reflection. Every once in a while you have a Friday assignment but, having those assignments was not overbearing. The best part was that it was consistent, there were no surprises.

This course is classified as DE for the General Academic Requirements that Muhlenberg requires. A DE class is classified as a course that aims to broaden a student’s knowledge of human differences and develop knowledge to participate in an interconnected world. After taking this course I would say I have definitely expanded my knowledge of Chinese history. I now know more than I thought I would about Historic China than I did in August.

Overall, I really enjoyed this class. Would have it been nice to be on campus, yes, however, I really appreciate the way this class was structured. Being able to learn the material at my own pace was very nice and enjoyable. I felt like I was able to connect with the material easily. It also helped that the website and class structure was very organized and straight forward. No hidden tricks. Thank you for a great semester!

Here we are, week 14 of the semester. It is crazy to think about how much we have all learned during this time.
