This past week I read some articles by Arthur Waldron and an article about the tale of Meng Jiangnü. When I signed up for this course I only knew the very basic common knowledge about China. After this week, I read more about the Great Wall of China. I can say for sure that I have definitely learned more things about the wall then what I knew before. Here are some of the things I learned this week about the Great Wall of China.
The Wall was not built without risks: We all know that the wall was built with a lot of people. I didn’t realize the amount though a lot of people worked on this wall and died because of it. It really makes me sad to see the amount of families separated, which leads me to my next point.
The Tales that have come along with the Great Wall: When reading various articles, I came across many tales including one about Meng Jiangnü. I really found the beauty in this tale quite interesting.
The knowledge my classmates and I learned: When reading through my classmates posts I can tell we all learned a lot. The stories that we came across and facts we found were very good! I hope we can continue that culture in the future.
